What Is A High-Clearance Vehicle?

High-clearance vehicles are cars with a high ride height, which are designed to drive on roads that have some kinds of obstruction such as objects near the ground. These vehicles often sport tall suspension and larger tires providing a greater range of movement over obstacles that would normally damage a standard car.

Typically, a vehicle with a clearance of more than 220mm is considered a high-clearance vehicle.

The advantage of a high clearance vehicle is that they are capable of traversing difficult terrain without affecting the car's undercarriage. These vehicles are frequent in places with large amounts of snowfall, because their ability to travel over rocky surfaces helps them maneuver through harsh winter conditions.

Driving a high clearance vehicle is also good for your wallet. Some insurance companies provide additional discounts on high clearance vehicles because they are equipped with all-wheel drive components and heavy-duty suspension which allows them to better navigate uncertain terrains making them less likely to incur damage.
