What Can Cause A Car Not To Start After Changing The Timing Chain?

When you change the timing chain or belt, it's extremely important to ensure the timing is set correctly. If you don't, or it's just slightly off, then the car won't start.

The timing chain serves as a director for all mechanisms in the engine. If it doesn't have the correct timing, then all of these mechanisms can get out of sync and won't work properly or at all. Additionally, if the timing is off even a little bit, it can cause a car not to start.

Some of the common symptoms of a faulty timing chain/belt are:

- The engine cranks but won't start

- Erratic idling or stumbling starts

- Anything out of the ordinary when starting the car.

Now, there are two ways to fix this issue: either you can go back and redo your timing chain installation (if it's misaligned) or you can have a professional service technician adjust your timing.

There are several components of the engine that can be affected by a faulty timing belt or chain. The valves have to have the right amount of clearance for them to open and close at the right time, so if it's not done correctly, the vehicle won't work properly.

The piston movement must also be in sync with the timing of valves. If it's off, then the car won't start.

You may notice that many different things can be affected by a faulty timing belt or chain. That's why it's extremely important to ensure they're properly installed when you change them, and that the engine is timed correctly before trying to start the car.
