What Is the Boot of a Car?

The boot is actually the trunk of the car. Car trunks are also referred to as boots because they are called like that in England, where the term "boot" is still widely used to refer to the storage area of a vehicle.

The boot of a car allows you to put luggage and other things inside and to protect them from bad weather when you're not using it. It can be accessed from outside the vehicle using a boot lid, which is the name given in the United Kingdom for the rear access door of a vehicle. In America, people tend to call it a "trunk".

In a sedan car, a trunk or a boot will be a separate compartment, while in SUVs the boot is in the same compartment as the passenger cabin. The same you will see in station wagons and hatchbacks. It may be inconvenient because of additional noise. But you can transform the car's cabin if it's an SUV, a hatchback, or a station wagon and get a three times bigger trunk or boot for your luggage.
