The Aprilia Tuono is an excellent motorbike that Aprilia has produced since 2002. The Aprilia RSV Mille served as the inspiration for this one. The Aprilia RSV1000R superbike, which is its direct descendant, shares its predecessor's engine, transmission, chassis, and, to a certain extent, suspension.

Even though manufacturing of the V2 model continued into the 2011 model year, the Aprilia Tuono V4 R replaced the Tuono as the flagship model of the Aprilia brand for the 2011 model year.

In addition, the Aprilia Tuono is known to be a streetfighter. Therefore, it is equipped with various technological aids like several levels of traction control, anti-lock brakes, wheelie control, launch control, and acceleration quality system (AQS) (Aprilia Quick Shift Electronic System). Since 2002, many adjustments have been made, but the fundamental nature of the bike has nearly entirely remained the same.

Furthermore, the RSV Mille superbike, produced from 1998 to 2003, is where the Tuono started. The chassis, engine, suspension, and brakes of the first-generation 2003-2005 RSV Tuono were derived from the 2002 Mille.

Up to the release of the RSV 1000 R, which was the model that succeeded the Mille, the bulk of the components for the Mille and Tuono models were interchangeable.

How reliable is the Aprilia Tuono bike?

Most confirmed users describe the Tuono as an Aprilia RSV4 with motocross handlebars and boosted midrange. It screams like a MotoGP rocket and accelerates like a superbike, yet you don't have to sacrifice comfort for speed because of its upright position and tourer-like wind protection. Said, it is the most incredible street-legal sportbike money can buy.

Aside from the exorbitant price, there is nothing you would alter. The Tuono satisfies every need for the discriminating thrill seeker: a mind-boggling 1077cc, 173hp V4 engine gifted by the gods of grunt and power and an exquisitely polished, three-time WSB championship-winning aluminum chassis.

The Aprilia Tuono may be peaceful and comfortable one moment, and a speed-crazed maniac with its front wheel suspended in midair for all eternity the next. In addition to its flawless engine, electronics, and ergonomics, the Tuono V4 1100 Factory's fluid handling is even more stunning.

The way the Tuono rolls around corners, making you feel solid and sure of yourself, is almost spiritual. Aprilia believes it can enhance the Tuono V4 1100 Factory with its new semi-active Ohlins 'Smart EC 2.0 System', similar to what is seen on the Ducati Panigale V4 S and the current Yamaha R1M, which increases the price by $1000.

In addition, this motorcycle has a suspension setting indicator on the Aprilia's color display and cables protruding from the Ohlins NIX forks, TTX rear shock, and steering damper. Aside from minor graphical adjustments, there are no other differences between this model and its predecessor.

Normal riding circumstances make little difference for the semi-active suspension. The previous model's mechanically adjustable forks and shock were difficult to fault. Still, the new electronics are worth their weight in Ohlin's gold in situations when you need more comfort, traction, or control.

With the flexibility to select between soft, medium, and harsh suspension settings, you now have the tantalizing option of owning numerous Tuonos in one, ideal for every situation - smooth and rough roads, highway cruising, and track riding at full speed. However, despite all of this acclaim, the Tuono is not without its flaws, which we will discuss in the next section.

Common problems and complaints about the Aprilia Tuono

In this part, we will cover one of the most often reported issues from reviews and online forums about the Tuono bike.

  • If you had a hot start problem from the start, which turned into a "turning the key starts the bike without using the "starter" switch" problem, you'd need to get it fixed. The way the starter cable was routed caused it to melt and short out on the cylinder head. This can be fixed by rerouting the cable and resealing the jacket where it melted.
  • Leaking front fork seal, the cause of this issue is unknown, but it can be replaced under warranty.
  • It seems like tires lose the rubber on their edges quite fast, yet the middle of the tire appears to retain its thickness. The excessive amount of bending into corners is the root of this problem.
  • The rebound adjuster on a Sach shock can go from -10 clicks out to -20, which means that the shock will no longer bounce back after a rough ride. However, the reason remains unclear.

Other common issues:

  • The Master Cylinder had a recall.
  • Low-Speed Fueling Error
  • Models manufactured before 9/28/2015; the rear sprocket bolts may become loose.
  • Quickshifter has been reported to be ineffective. Sometimes there are False Neutrals. Gear shifts are not as smooth as in previous models.
  • Dash Dim becomes blank and then returns to normal.
  • Hot Start Issue: one user observed that the starter cable was routed incorrectly, causing it to melt and fall onto the cylinder head.
  • The bike accelerated on its own while warming up to operating temperature. This occurs on occasion. And when slowing down for a junction, almost as if the rpm drops too low and the ECU tries to speed it up again, this only happened during the motor warm-up phase and around 2000rpm.
  • Engine problem after 2000 miles (Aprilia will replace it under warranty).
  • Some users reported fuel leaks; if you experience this problem, Aprilia will replace the fuel tank under warranty unless it's voided.
  • Bike stalls while in gear.

Pros and cons of the Aprilia Tuono

PROS:

  • It's very reliable
  • It has a taller fairing and more room for a passenger, which makes it easier to ride on the road.
  • It has a body with wings and vents like those on MotoGP bikes and cool LED lights, including the front turn signals.
  • It is sporty and compact
  • It is pillion-friendly owing to taller bars, a bigger pillion pad, a sizable grab rail, and lower pillion pegs, as well as a more comfortable riding position.
  • The engine has also been updated to meet higher standards, with a brutal and explosive performance.
  • Even at highway speeds, it hardly needs higher gears. In any gear, passing is easy and happens right away.

CONS:

  • It is quite expensive
  • It has been noted that there have been instances of software errors that wrongly indicate a misfire.
