1. Honda CRF230F

Starting with the best, the Honda CRF230F is a great dirt bike for beginners. It has a lot of power and is very easy to control. The bike is also very lightweight, making it easy to maneuver. The only downside to the CRF230F is that it doesn't have a lot of features that more advanced riders might want. However, for a beginner who's just contented on the basics, the CRF230F is an excellent choice.

The CRF230F has a 223cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine that produces 23 horsepower. It also has a six-speed manual transmission. The bike weighs just over 200 pounds, making it very lightweight. The CRF230F also has front and rear suspension, made up of 37 mm leading-axle Showa fork in front and Prolink Showa single shock with spring preload adjustability at the back, which helps absorb shocks and make the ride more comfortable.

One of the best things about the CRF230F is that it is very easy to ride. Even if you have never ridden a dirt bike before, you will be able to get the hang of it quickly. The bike is also very forgiving, so if you make a mistake, you won't immediately end up in a crash.

The Honda CRF230F is an excellent choice for beginners. It has plenty of power and is easy to control. The bike is also lightweight and has front and rear suspension, making it more comfortable to ride. If you are looking for a great entry-level dirt bike, the CRF230F is a great option.

The dirt bike starts at $4,349 in Honda motorcycle dealerships.

2. Honda XR400R

The Honda XR400R is a great alternative for beginner-level dirt bike riders. It has plenty of power and torque to get you up and moving, but it's not so overwhelming to the point that it's already unmanageable.

The XR400R is fitted with a 397cc, air-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder engine. The unit is good for 34 hp, which is above average for a beginner dirt bike. All that power is distributed via a five-speed manual transmission.

The XR400R is 257 lbs., which is a bit heavy for a dirt bike, but, surprisingly, it remains easy to maneuver and control. Another downside is that it can be a bit tricky to start, especially when cold. But overall, the XR400R is a great option for those just starting out in the world of dirt biking, especially those who are looking for more performance out of their bikes.

Due to its features, the XR400R is pricier than its sibling here. When it came out, it had a price tag of $5,299. Unfortunately, the model has been discontinued in 2004, so you will have to search for it in the market for used bikes. The pricing will depend on the condition of the unit that you are looking to purchase but a well-maintained one and in good running condition retails between $1,800 to $2,500.

3. Kawasaki KLX140F

The Kawasaki KLX140F is a nice dirt bike to start with. It is powered by a 144cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine, and carburetor fuel system mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The bike is lightweight at 205 lbs. and easy to handle. There's no information available for its horsepower but it's just enough to bring out the fun. The suspension featuring a 33 mm telescopic fork in front and Uni-Trak linkage system in the back is soft, making it comfortable to ride on rough terrain.

The only downside is that the bike is not very adjustable, so it is only ideal for small or medium-sized adults. Otherwise, the KLX140G is a great choice for anyone just starting out in dirt biking.

Prepare a budget of $4,049 to get one of these.

4. Kawasaki KLX230R

The Kawasaki KLX230R is a great dirt bike for beginners. It has a decent amount of power at 17.9 hp coming from its 233cc SOHC, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. With only a weight of around 213 lbs, it is very controllable.

However, it does have some downsides. First, the seat is a bit uncomfortable for long rides because some find them too high. Second, the suspension, consisting of a 37 mm fork in front and linkage-assisted spring-preload adjustable shock in the back, is not as good as other bikes in its class. Regardless, the Kawasaki KLX230R is a cool dirt bike for beginners and experienced riders alike.

This unit only costs $4,399 on the market.

5. Yamaha TTR230

The Yamaha TT-R230 is a reliable and powerful dirt bike that is perfect for beginner and intermediate riders. It is equipped with a 223cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine producing 17 hp. All that power is managed via a six-speed manual transmission.

It is relatively lightweight at 242 lbs., making it easy to handle, and has a strong engine that can tackle any terrain. The bike also comes with a few useful features for your convenience, such as an electric start and a headlight.

A drawback of this bike is its suspension, which is more angled towards providing comfort rather than focusing on performance. This can be remedied using mods though if you also happen to love tinkering with bikes.

Overall, the Yamaha TT-R230 is a great option for those looking for a durable and affordable dirt bike, which costs $4,599.

6. Beta RR 50 Racing Edition

The Beta RR 50 Racing Edition is a great dirt bike for beginners. It has plenty of power and is very easy to control. The only downside is that it's not particularly fast, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for a beginner rider.

The RR 50 Racing Edition comes with a 49cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine. Beta Motorcycles does not provide any figures in terms of its horsepower, but we find its power to be adequate enough to help you tackle rough terrains with ease. It's mated to a six-speed transmission, so you can really make the most of the power when you're on the trails. The bike also comes with disc brakes front and rear, which provide a lot of stopping power. As a bonus, it comes with electronic ignition with an electric starter that will let you start the engine with a simple push of a button.

The RR 50 Racing Edition is a good option for beginner riders who want a bike that's easy to control and has a decent amount of power. However, if you're looking for a bike that's really fast, this probably isn't the right one for you. But if you're just getting started in the world of dirt biking, the Beta RR 50 Racing Edition should be on your checklist.

Due to its numerous features, this is by far the most expensive on our list.
