Types of BMW Hybrid Electric Vehicles

A BMW hybrid vehicle utilizes both petrol and electric engines. Although some hybrids require regenerative braking to recharge their batteries, a plug-in hybrid vehicle is one you can plug to recharge. Below are the two types of BMW hybrid electrical vehicles available.

  • Mild Hybrid

Most people worry about owning an electric car because it offers a low mileage without ample charging stations. For such people, the mild-hybrid electric vehicle is an excellent alternative. Mild-hybrid cars use a battery and electric motor to power the vehicle, and the engine shuts off whenever the car stops.

However, mild-hybrid cars also run a traditional combustion engine. So the only benefit of a mild hybrid electric vehicle is that it allows you to use less fuel and houses an electric system that you don't have to charge.

  • Plug-in Hybrid

On the other hand, BMW also offers plug-in electric vehicles that provide fuel and an electric power source. Plug-in electric cars have a charging socket that allows you to power the vehicle without needing a combustion engine.

The plug-in electric vehicle offers you the best of both worlds. It increases the amount of mileage you can achieve while reducing fuel consumption.
