Can You Put 5x110 On 5x114? We’ve Found Out The Options

Many car owners ask whether they can fit some wheels on their cars that don't fit originally according to their label information. The most popular answer is whether you can put 5x110 wheels to a 5x114.3 hub. And we will try to answer this question in our today's article.

So, the obvious answer you are expecting is: "No, of course, you can't replace your 5x110 wheels with any other type of wheels because your bolt or nut pattern won't fit". But let us explain some things to you first.

110-5 or 110-14 wheels

Wheel labeling - what do those figures mean?

If you see 5x110 on your wheel or in the hub specs, you can understand that the wheel should have 5 holes for bolts or studs and the centers of these holes should locate 110 mm from each other forming a pentagon. Sounds easy, rights?

So how on Earth can you replace your 5x110 wheels with 5x114.3 wheels without changing your hub or without drilling new holes in your disc? This is basically impossible, but some producers came up with the idea of spacers or adapters that will allow you to do that.

If you try putting the wrong wheel size on your car without any adapters, you will face some problems:

  • your wheel is likely to not even fit the studs or bolt holes, so you won't be able to fix it;
  • even if the studs will somehow fit thanks to bigger holes in the wheel, you will not be able to center the wheel with nuts or bolts;
  • once you try to fasten the wheel nuts, you will break the wheel, bend the studs or do some other harm;
  • if you somehow fasten the wrong-sized wheel, you won't be able to drive, because the wheel won't be centered.

So, the answer is no - you can't just install 5x114.3 wheels to your hubs that are designed for 5x110 wheels.

But if you can find a special spacer or adapter for your vehicle, you can easily do it.

How does the 5x110 to 5x114.3 adapter work?

Well, the adapter works really cool. It is fastened to the hub and then it provides new holes or new studs for your wheel of a different size. There are different adapters depending on what kind of wheel fastening you have on your original hubs. Different adaptors are needed for stud hubs and bolt-hole hubs.

Here's how you use those spacers:

  1. Take off the wheel from your vehicle.
  2. Take the spacer and use the special fastening that was delivered with it in a package.
  3. Take your wheel of the different size and fasten it using original fastening.
  4. Check if the wheel is centered well and drive carefully for the first miles.

You will have a disadvantage though - a lot of fastening units, so higher chance of making something wrong. But if you just do everything carefully, the spacers will work pretty well and won't cause any problems at all.

Bottom line

We still don't recommend using any kinds of adapters and spacers to install your wheel. In this case, you apply additional parts to your hub and get higher risks that something will go wrong. Better use your original size when you buy new rims or wheels. This will ensure better results on the road and will let your drive your car with better safety.

Though, if you desperately need to install 5x114.3 wheels to your 5x110 hub, it's not impossible. Just get the decent spacers.

You don't use the oem lug nuts on most. Need new ones to match the lug centric bore of the spacer.
