Chevy Spark Mods – What Can You Change In a Small Chevrolet?

Your Chevrolet Spark is not just a small vehicle. It's one of the parts of history in the US because it basically turned the market to smaller cars in a country where nobody wanted a small car at all. Now, Spark is still a very popular vehicle and it's presented as an electric vehicle in one of the trims.

But today, we will mainly speak about some modifications for your Chevrolet Spark. This tiny car can actually be changed for the better. It may look better, go better, and give you better feelings inside. This is the vehicle that needs your attention to give you more fun when driving. But you should remember that any mods can be unsuccessful - pay attention to what we say in our article.

Chevy Spark Mods

Here's what we are going to talk about:

  1. Chevy Spark visual mods and tuning - what can you change?
  2. Chevrolet Spark technical mods - is it worth the money?
  3. What else can you change in your Spark?
  4. What are the good and bad sides of any Spark modes?

Let's get started!

Visual tuning - can your Spark look better?

We all want our cars to look better than they do now. It doesn't mean that we don't like them. But it's that feeling when you see another Spark on the street and you love it even more than your Spark. Why? Because it has some mods. And these tuning elements make it look cool. It's a dangerous way to change the way your car looks because sometimes those changes may not be good at all.

So, speaking about any visual changes, the Spark has a lot of wonderful options. Before we start our list of mods, we want to say that it's not a very good idea to buy and install any aftermarket visual addons. Their common problem is very poor quality. You should be sure that the quality of all accessories is very high, otherwise, they will look awful.

Here are some ideas for visual mods of your Spark:

  1. Chrome trim. You can buy some original or aftermarket parts that will replace some parts on the exterior of your vehicle. These chrome parts will look cool and make your car even more beautiful. You can also paint some parts chrome, but pay attention to the quality.
  2. Special body kits. Again, it's hard to find something original and you should be careful with quality. But different plastic body kits will help you make your Spark unique and it will actually look great.
  3. Alternative headlights and taillights. When you replace your stock dull headlights with something from a better trim or just with some cool options, you will see that your vehicle will look much better. Just look at all facelifts of cars - they usually just change the lights.
  4. Fender Flares. Small cars look pretty good when they have some custom Fender Flares. Well, yes, they can't be original GM, but they can be of high quality if you find something like that.
  5. Different colors of some parts. You may style your small Spark with a double-color design. For example, you may paint orange the roof and the side mirrors on your black Chevy Spark and you can also buy orange rims (or also paint them). This will make your vehicle stylish.
  6. Big rims. You can use different sizes of rims just applying the optimal size of the tires in order to keep the size of the wheel approximately the same. These big rims will change the way your Spark looks and will add some sport to its appearance.

A lot of cool things you can do with your Chevy Spark. But keep in mind that you should always check that the parts and accessories you buy are of good quality. For example, bad-quality rims will still look good, but in just one month they will get a lot of scratches and dents and you will have to repair or replace them. Because there could be nothing worse than bad-looking styling things on your Spark.

One more simple rule: keep up with the limits. If you overdo the styling of your car, the Spark will just look bad. You shouldn't add all existing accessories to your car.

What can you change on the technical side of the Spark?

Chevrolet Spark is just a simple city car that is designed for slow driving and relatively comfortable city commuting. Most Sparks are powered with 1.25-liter gasoline engines that offer just a little power and torque. Unfortunately, the blocks of these engines will not hold more power. It doesn't make much sense to think about turbocharging your Spark or even tuning the ECU in this vehicle.

We wouldn't say it will give anything. If you decide to tune the ECU, you can get another 10 horsepower. But is it worth your money? We doubt it because basically, the vehicle will not change the way it goes. You will not even notice that something changed, but your pocket will.

So, here are some technical mods you can do with your Chevy Spark:

  1. Suspension. Unfortunately, the stock suspension is quite stiff. It's good for handling, but let's face it, we don't drive Sparks on racing tracks much. So, you can install softer coils and shock absorbers.
  2. Brakes. Better brakes will always be a good idea. Some trims of the Spark had better brakes than some other trims. Just find the best rotors and brakes and use only GM parts for modifications.
  3. Better intake and exhaust system. If you use some aftermarket performance parts, you can get another 10 horsepower and use your engine with much better efficiency. It doesn't mean you will feel this power, but sometimes it will still play an important part in your driving fun.
  4. More weight. Your Spark may feel too stiff on the road because it's light. If you add more weight to the rear end of your vehicle, you will have a much more comfortable drive. But you should know that the gas mileage will suffer a little.
  5. Chevy Spark RS parts. You may know that Chevrolet sold RS models with different engines, transmissions, and some other performance parts. You can get those parts for your Spark if you have some money to spare.

Well, we should say it isn't much you can do with your Chevrolet Spark if you just don't want to spend a lot of money. Does it feel bad on the road? Then calculate what you will spend for replacing the engine with an RS model engine and then calculate how much you should add to trade in your vehicle and buy a better one from a dealer.

Sometimes, it's really cheaper to buy a new car with better performance than to try and get some more power from your Chevy Spark's little engine. We don't recommend technical mods with your Chevy Spark, especially if they touch the stock engine and transmission. Because in this case, you are risking longevity which is not brilliant even without any mods.

What will make your Spark better?

We would also think about the interior. Changing the exterior and not touching the interior is something really bad. You will just not see anything cool when you are driving a car. It means nothing will change for you. So, we recommend thinking more about the interior because this is something you see every single minute you are in the vehicle.

And you have a lot of choices:

  • styling of your interior with some bright colors - just paint some plastic parts and make them look better;
  • comfortable accessories you can add to your vehicle - those accessories can be GM original or aftermarket;
  • good music - even if you just install two good dynamics, you will see the difference because the car is very small;
  • good seat covers - for example, you may order leather seat covers that will look just like leather seats and make your car more comfortable;
  • high-quality carpets that are styled for your Chevy car and are also convenient to take care of;
  • some badges and other things that will make your vehicle more stylish and cooler.

Remember that you drive inside the vehicle, you never see it from outside when you are driving. It means you should invest some money in your interior and get some cool things that will look nice. But again, we warn you that it's very easy to overdo these tuning things. You should set a limit of investment and a limit of things you need to change in your car. Otherwise, it can turn into an eternal investment with thousands of wasted dollars.

Final words

We love those tiny Chevy Sparks and we adore such cars that don't make you pay a lot for fuel. But they aren't stylish at all and you sometimes want them to look better. You will also need to make it more comfortable. We would separate visual mods and technical mods for your Chevrolet Spark. It's good when you are making your car unique, but changing something on the technical side of this vehicle is not a very good idea.
