Nothing feels more comfortable than riding your Chrysler 200 with a perfectly working Climate Control System. Imagine adjusting temperatures from the driver or the passenger side without any hassle. You can ride your car with the right temperature and humidity consistently throughout the ride.
Chrysler 200 is a reliable vehicle. But having a promising Climate Control System does not always mean it will not experience any problems. While it does not happen every day, it could not only mean discomfort but future repairs.
So if you are one of the people who need more information about its Climate Control problems and how to fix them, we summed them up in this article. Check them out.
Understanding Chrysler 200 Climate Control System
The Chrysler 200 has a comprehensive Climate control System. This system regulates the temperature and airflow inside the cabin to keep you and your passenger comfortable.
The system comes with a dual-zone automatic climate control system that helps the driver and passenger set their desired temperature individually. Also, your vehicle comes with humidity sensors that maintain humidity levels in your car.
The vehicle's recirculation technology reduces outside pollutants and recirculates the air inside the cabin. It keeps the air free from pollutants, dust, and airborne substances through its air pollen filter.
You can also have the option to set the car to adjust the temperature automatically when the sun is getting hot and keep it cool. Also, its remote operation features starting the engine from a distance and letting it pre-heat or pre-cool before entering the car.
Truly, Chrysler 200 has amazing Climate Control features that you will love. However, when one of the components starts having issues, here's where the system may fail.
Climate Control Problems in Chrysler 200
1) AC Not Cooling
There could be many possible reasons your climate control system will not blow off cold air. One of them is having low refrigerant levels. Your car's compressor will fail to make a cycle if there is a shortage in refrigerant levels. Try to find the leak before topping up with more coolant because the problem will persist if you don't fix the leak.
Sometimes the condenser has been blocked with particles and debris. Any blockage or damage in the condenser will prevent it from taking the heat out of the refrigerant.
A faulty compressor will surely prevent your AC from blowing cold air. There are lots of reasons your air compressor goes bad. Wiring issues, clutch cycling switch, slipping belt, or if you have not used the compressor for a long time, may prevent your AC from doing its job.
Another reason could be a faulty blower motor and a clogged air filter. If you have a dirty air filter, it needs cleaning. Good thing a blower motor is not expensive to replace when it is at fault.
2) The Heater does not Warm Up.
Your car heater should warm you up when it is cool. However, some issues could prevent it from heating enough. If you are low on coolant, your heater core will not receive it, preventing it from warming up. While the coolant should make your cabin cooler, the right coolant level should also complete the heating cycle.
Also, if you have a faulty thermostat, it won't be able to regulate your car's temperature. If it remains closed or partially closed, there will be excessive condensation in the engine. You have to replace the thermostat.
Likewise, if you have a clogged or failing heater core, coolant cannot pass through. It needs coolant to produce heat. Check your floorboard. If it's wet, your heater core is leaking. Also, the hoses attached to the heater core should both feel hot. When one of them is cold, it must have been clogged.
3) Display Lights not Working
Display lights provide visibility in your climate control, even if it is dark. When only the display lights are at fault, but the buttons and other functions are working, the issue could either be a burned bulb light or faulty wiring. You can replace them both in your garage, and you do not need to program your control.
4) Poor Airflow
Air should flow freely in the cooling system before getting distributed inside the cabin. However, when the cabin filter has a blockage, it prevents the airflow from getting through. Another culprit could be dirt in the evaporator coil. The air filter captures dust and airborne particles. But some of them still get through the evaporator coil and build up. Clean them both for consistent airflow.
Also, the evaporator could get frozen due to the high refrigerant levels. In this case, you need to defrost and clean it. Aside from a faulty blower motor, you can also have a damaged door actuator that prevents airflow from getting in through the vents. In this case, the faulty actuator may divert the airflow to different vents.
5) Loud Noises
You can hear loud noises in the climate control system coming from the blower motor. It is a sign that the fan blades and housing are rubbing against each other or the motor is vibrating on the housing. You can hear this noise often when the blower runs at a faster speed. If there's no significant damage on the blower, try lubricating it to prevent vibration. If damaged, the blower needs replacement.
6) Sudden Increase in Temperature
A sudden increase in temperature in your Chrysler 200 can happen for several reasons. If your AC is not working, it can result in a sudden temperature rise. This problem also goes for a compressor not running. In this case, you need to bring your Chrysler 200 to your trusted service shop for inspection and repair.
7) Water Leaks
Water leaks arise from issues like a faulty seal, blocked drain, or faulty hose. If a puddle of water is building up on your cabin floor, you must have a water leak. And it is a common occurrence if you are running an AC or heater. Water leaks, if left unaddressed, could lead to the growth of mildew inside the cabin, interior damage, and produce a musty smell. Find the damaged component causing the leak and replace it.
By the way, the leaks may lead to bad smell. If you have this problem, check this article to soleve the issues with bad smells from your car AC.
8) Difficulty in Maintaining Temperature
Your Chrysler 200 may experience difficulty maintaining temperature due to different system issues. First, you need its software updated. If the problem is not on the AC, the fault could be due to faulty sensors passing on incorrect readings. If one of its wirings is loose or faulty, it could also have difficulty maintaining a temperature. Next, a bad thermostat could also be the culprit. It would start malfunctioning, and maintaining temperature would be difficult. If this is the case, it needs replacement.
Additionally, if your system has overworked, it may have trouble keeping a set temperature.
9) Cycling On and Off Frequently
Chrysler 200 control system also tends to cycle on and off when you have a faulty temperature sensor. If the temperature sensor cannot detect correct readings, the system will cycle on and off as it will try harder to reach the desired temperature.
In this case, you need to replace the temperature sensor. Not addressing this issue will keep the system cycling on and off, and the system will be unable to regulate temperature.
10) Faulty Control Pad
Your climate control pad could be faulty when you constantly need to input user settings manually. When the control pad becomes unresponsive to input, this problem could arise from software or hardware issues. Buttons can get stuck, and controls may jam because of dust. Also, this could arise from loose or faulty wiring being unable to maintain communication between parts.
Unless you are willing to continue to adjust the setting manually, you can fix this by inspecting your control and cleaning it. If buttons still do not respond after cleaning, replace them.
11) Climate control failure
A malfunctioning climate control can pose serious risks for people inside the cabin. Failing climate control can result in the temperature getting too hot or too cold. In some cases, you can reset the unit to fix it. To do this, start your car and turn the climate control unit on.
Press the Auto and Off buttons at the same time, and hold for three seconds until the Reset message pops up. When the Re-initialize message pops up, press the Auto and Off buttons until the display shows the Restart message again. It should reset within 10 seconds. For the last part, turn your car off and restart. This time, your climate control unit should be reset.
After resetting the control unit, check the air filter for blockage.
If the filter has been blocked, clean it. If it has been damaged, replace it.
If resetting the climate control and replacing the air filter did not fix it, replace your climate control unit.
Final Thoughts
In summary, the Chrysler 200 climate control system is one of the most advanced climate technology for automotive. However, not all systems are perfect, and your climate control may suffer different problems.
Good thing there are ways to keep your climate control system in good shape. First, make it a habit to check your air filters and replace them when needed. Don't forget to inspect your cabin filter too. Bring your cooling system for service regularly. Don't forget to get the system inspected for leaks. Also, check the hoses and belts regularly. Make sure your car vents are free from dust and debris. This way, you can keep your climate control system working when you need it most.
