Hidden Mercedes Tricks You Should Know If You Own One

Every vehicle has some tricks and secrets that you may not know about. Sometimes, we drive our cars for years and only by chance then get to know that these cars have some wonderful features that we could have been using for so long. This may be a pity for you combined with the joy from finding such features.

Today, we offer you to dig into Mercedes-Benz hidden features you may want to use if you own a German vehicle. Mercedes-Benz cars have always been popular in America. They are luxurious, expensive, cool-looking, reputable, and you may find dozens of other words to describe how good they are.

But now we'll be talking about the following:

  1. Some tricks you will find in certain models.
  2. How to use secret functions in your Mercedes?
  3. Which Mercedes-Benz models have more tricks?
  4. Where can you find out more about the hidden functions?

Let's get started!

The most interesting hidden tricks in Mercedes cars

We've researched the forums and found some features that you would love to have in your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The good news is that you probably already have these features. But you just don't know about them. These hidden or locked tricks are very easy to unlock and use in your everyday life.

This will make your journeys much more comfortable and you'll be able to use something you couldn't use before without paying extra for unlocking this feature. Cool, isn't it?

Here are some features we really love:

  1. Did you know your Mercedes can read text messages? Well, we are sure you know you can connect your phone to the car. Now, you can read your text messages. But when you are driving, it's dangerous to read. When you finally open your message, what you have to do is to press "Enter" twice - just like you do a double-click with a PC mouse. The vehicle will then read the message aloud. Awesome!
  2. Keyhole in your C-Class Mercedes-Benz. You may not know about this because people virtually never use keyholes in their trunk lids. But if your trunk doesn't open because of a broken electric element or something, you can always open it with a key. For this, you will need to look just above your license plate. You will see the keyhole that looks downwards. Insert the key and open the trunk.
  3. Opening windows with your remote. This is another cool feature you can use. If you have a standard remote with "lock" and "unlock" buttons, you can use them to open or close the windows. For example, this will help on a sunny day when you will want to let your car fresh a little with cool air before you get in. So, you will need to press once the "unlock" button and then press it again and hold it for 2-3 seconds. Your windows will start opening. Once you let the button off, it will stop opening.
  4. Driving through the tunnel will require you to close all your windows. Otherwise, the noise will be just unbearable. For this, Mercedes-Benz created a special mode called "tunnel-mode". You should just press the air-circulation button and hold it for 2-3 seconds. All the windows and the sunroof will close automatically. What's more interesting, is that once you press the air-circulation button once again and hold it for 3 seconds, the windows will reopen again to the previous position.
  5. Parking space researcher. A lot of modern Mercedes cars have a so-called parking assistant. This "guy" understands when you want to park your car - it analyzes your driving style and sees what you want to do. Then, it starts searching for a parking space. Once it sees a parking space that is suitable to park your Mercedes, it will send you a letter P of a blue color. Cool feature, and now you know what the heck this blue letter P means in your Mercedes-Benz.
  6. Windscreen heating (where your wipers park). Nearly all Mercedes-Benz cars will have all you need for heating the wipers zone. But in many vehicles, this feature will be blocked. You will only need to reprogram the ECU a little to get access to this feature because the heating equipment is probably already there.
  7. HOLD feature. When you are at a traffic light or in a traffic jam, you should just press the brake pedal harder and the car will send you a message saying "HOLD". This means that you can take your foot off the pedal and the car will not move backward. Now it will move only after you press the accelerator pedal. This is a very well-realized hill-assist system that not many Mercedes drivers know about.

These are the features that can be applied in many Mercedes cars, not just in specific models. Of course, some of these secret features can still be unavailable in your vehicle. This just means that the producer didn't include the needed equipment or didn't program the ECU to control all the units in the needed way.

You can find much more hidden features if you google specific hidden tricks for your model and generation of the car. It seems that Mercedes cars are actually the leaders in using hidden tricks. And we have an explanation of why it happens.

Why do hidden tricks appear to be in cars?

You probably know that every vehicle is sold in many different trim levels. The base trim is usually the most affordable. But it doesn't mean that for making this trim the car manufacturer has a special line where workers know that they shouldn't include some wiring and they shouldn't install some equipment. Usually, you have nearly all the features that a top-trim car has in the same generation of vehicles.

Here's why it happens:

  • manufacturers want to make all the processes of assembling the vehicle very easy and quick;
  • they don't want to make dozens of assembly lines for different trims;
  • the equipment for different heating options and electric features is not expensive at all;
  • they will include the same ECU with basic settings, but then they will block some of the features;
  • to use the majority of different features you will need to unlock them in your car;
  • most of the hidden tricks are just marketing features for more expensive trims.

Just look at what the car with the best trim of the same year has inside. It may have heated seats, so your seats already have heating elements. You will only need to install a button and you will be able to use the heated seat option.

Does it have "follow-me-home" lights? You will easily unblock this feature. All you need to do is to ask your dealer or any other mechanic that is familiar with these cars to unlock the feature you want.

The process of unlocking additional features

Some of the hidden features you may just start using right away. But some of them need unblocking. And in modern Mercedes-Benz cars, you will be able to unlock a lot of features if you have a good mechanic. Usually, people who offer engine tuning can help you with the unlocking process.

Here's what they can do:

  • investigate all the hidden features your vehicle may have (theoretically);
  • then, use their equipment to get into the brain of your vehicle;
  • with the help of prepared code parts, they will set the new features for you;
  • then they will decide how you can control the new features;
  • maybe, some new buttons should be placed in your cat;
  • after that, all the new options will be checked by the mechanic;
  • then, they will explain to you how to use all the new features you have.

Well, the BMW cars are the leaders in terms of hidden features. But some Mercedes-Benz vehicles also have a lot of tricks you may easily find and use. Unfortunately, a lot of tricks will require unlocking with the help of tuning equipment. So, you will need to find a really professional person because, in most cases, the Mercedes-Benz dealers don't assist drivers in unlocking the hidden features. Otherwise, all buyers will buy the cheapest trims and then will pay a hundred bucks to unlock all the features they need.

Final words

So, the Mercedes cars actually offer a lot of wonderful options for you. Even without searching for any secret and hidden tricks, you will have a wonderful set of equipment to make your journey comfortable. But with additional features, you will have an even better experience and will be able to get pleasure every time you get into your car.

We hate the idea that car manufacturers hide a lot of features, the dealers tend to rob us by selling more expensive trims with basically the same equipment and just a little different ECU settings. But now you know how to compensate. At least, you can find some new options in your Mercedes car and can use them in your everyday driving.
