How to Use AUX in Ford Fiesta MK7? Common Issues and Questions

In its best years, Ford Fiesta sold over half a million vehicles a year. More than half of those were sold in Europe but the US has also quite a lot of Fiesta cars. One common question that many Fiesta owners ask is how to use AUX in these vehicles. While it seems to be really easy, you can have some issues with this function.

In short, the AUX slot in the Fiesta MK7 is placed under your gear shifter. Also, to use it you need to press the AUX button on the multimedia panel once you connected your phone or player. But let me tell you more about the use of this function in your Fiesta.

By the way, I filmed a video about the AUX use in my Ford Fiesta that I have personally been driving for over half a year now. Check it out:

How to use AUX in your Ford Fiesta - step by step

So, you should first find the AUX port in the car. It's located in the lower part of the central console, below the shifter. Usually, the handbrake lever points in the direction of this slot. It may be accompanied by the USB slot that is located on the same panel. But some Fiesta cars came without AUX slots, so you may also not have this opportunity.

Now, follow these steps to use the port:

  • Get an AUX cable and connect it to your Fiesta.
  • The other part of the AUX cable you may connect to your phone or player.
  • After that, press the button saying "AUX" on the control panel of your radio.
  • Now, use your player software on the phone and use it to play music in the car.

As easy as that - everything is pretty straightforward. But there are still some concerns you should remember about.

Why is the AUX cable doesn't hold in the slot in my Fiesta?

This is one of the common problems that you can have with the AUX port in the Fiesta. After some time, this port gets loose and just can't hold the cable. It may still work or it may not have good contact to transfer the signal. Anyway, the loose port will obviously give a bad signal and you will have to repair or replace it. Unfortunately, the OEM part (for example, the 7M5T19A164AA part code) will cost you a fortune.

Can you use the hands-free function in Fiesta with the AUX?

You will hear the person who's calling you pretty well but the Fiesta MK7 isn't equipped with the microphone, at least in its base version that is shown in the video above. So, no, using the AUX port as a way to use hands-free calls is impossible.

What to do if my AUX is not working in Fiesta?

You should check if you do everything right - check if you press the AUX button on the radio control panel when you have already connected the phone or player. Also, make sure that the cable sits tightly in the port.

If it still doesn't work, there are two possible reasons:

  • The glitch in the software. Fiesta doesn't have really strong software and it can glitch pretty hard. I had experience with my radio doing crazy things when the sun was shining directly on it and probably warming it up through the glass.
  • Disconnected cable. The AUX port may easily be disconnected or maybe even damaged by water. If you remember spilling something like coffee or water on it, you may be sure that the whole AUX port requires replacement.

If the AUX port is faulty, you can try and find it used on eBay or in some scrapyards. This will cost you much cheaper than buying the new port from a Ford dealership.

Can I install AUX in my Fiesta if I don't have one?

In any Fiesta MK7 that has the OEM radio, you can install the AUX port. It's not that hard but it requires the new port, wiring, and some understanding of where to plug it. Of course, you will need to disassemble the plastic parts in the interior of your Fiesta a little to plug everything.

In cars with no AUX and/or USB, you can see the empty plastic plug in the place where you should see the AUX port. This plug can be replaced with the new or used AUX port that comes with the same size plug. Even the cheapest standard radio has an AUX function built in, so you will just need to plug the cable into the radio and use the AUX function.

Check this before you buy the AUX port!

AUX is a very outdated technology and your new mobile phone will most likely not have the AUX port. Instead, it will use wireless technologies for headphones and other connections. So, think twice if you actually need to invest in AUX in your car because its functions may be useless in a couple of months when you buy the new phone.
