Here's what we are going to talk about today:

  1. Jeep Gladiator initial prices and technologies offered.
  2. The price depreciation parameters and figures.
  3. What will make your Jeep Gladiator even cheaper?
  4. How can you sell your vehicle at a better price?

Let's get started!

Jeep Gladiator - what do you get with a new vehicle?

So, the Gladiator is a kind of a blend between a Wrangler and some pickup truck. When it was first introduced, people were afraid to buy this vehicle because they predicated a sharp depreciation in price. This was a unique type of vehicle that was thought to be not popular. But over time, Jeep fans started to see this car as a great traveler and a great option for active off-roading.

Now, this vehicle is still popular. It offers an immense number of trims and the prices start at $37,680 for a Sport trim which is a base version. The most popular choice is not the cheapest trim, though. People prefer Rubicon trim that costs slightly less than $50,000. And there is an even more expensive version called High Altitude that costs almost $55,000.

Here's what you get with this vehicle:

  • wonderful off-roading with all the technologies of a legendary Wrangler;
  • the unique style and body type - this is basically a convertible pickup truck, the only one on the market;
  • the first engine is the 3.6-liter V6 that comes with 285 horsepower - it's a standard option;
  • then, there is a diesel engine which is a 3-liter unit with 260 horsepower;
  • the six-speed automatic transmission is standard for gasoline V6, though you can pay more for an 8-speed transmission which is standard for diesel versions;
  • the all-wheel-drive system works just like in Wranglers and it's hard to find any problems with it;
  • removable doors are something not every vehicle can have - actually, Gladiator is the only one with such an option.

As you see, the Jeep Gladiator is quite a weird car with a lot of surprises. The price is not low at all. If you want to buy a new Gladiator, you will need to find some financing options or just give away about 50 thousand.

At this point, you may start thinking of what you will lose in 3 or 4 years when you want to sell your vehicle and buy a new one. And today, we are going to tell you about the price depreciation. This is something you should know about before you decide to buy such a car. Because Jeeps are actually pretty bad for saving up your money.

How much will you lose with your Jeep Gladiator?

We usually take the base trim for counting depreciation in the price of a vehicle, but today we'll be talking about the Rubicon. This is the most popular Gladiator trim because people buy this car for fun and they want to have much more cool options in their vehicles. So, let's assume that the final price of your car at the dealers' shop was around $50,000 including some additional options and accessories.

The highest depreciation will occur during the first year. You will lose about 14% of the price because all the additional accessories will not count in the resale price.

Here's how the price of your Gladiator will change over time:

  • 1 year - $43,000
  • 2 years - $38,500
  • 3 years - $36,000
  • 4 years - $33,500
  • 5 years - $29.500
  • 6 years - $26,500
  • 7 years - $24,500
  • 8 years - $20,000
  • 9 years - $18,500
  • 10 years - $17,500

Now, you should understand that these figures are not exactly what you will get on the market. Firstly, it depends highly on how you sell your vehicle. Secondly, it depends on the condition of your car and the mileage. We'll discuss these factors later in the article, so stay tuned.

These depreciation figures show that you will lose around $7,000 right in the first year when you own the Gladiator. Then, you will lose $2,000 to $4,000 a year. After 10 years of having this vehicle, the depreciation of its price will slow down a bit to $1,000 - $2,000 a year. But finding clients will be more difficult.

Also, bear in mind that our prices are only a demonstration of what you will get in case the market stays the same all the time. Also, the average yearly mileage should be around 12 000 miles or less.

What will make your Gladiator lose its price faster?

You should understand that a used Jeep Gladiator is not always a good purchase for people. They will think that the vehicle was used at rough terrains, killed in off-roading. So, not many people are ready to pay a lot for your used Gladiator. That's why the price depreciation will be faster than in many other cars.

But there are direct factors that will make your Jeep lose the price faster. Some of them are obvious, but some are hidden. Here's what you should know about:

  1. Mileage. The average mileage in the US is thought to be around 15 000 miles a year. But the Gladiator is usually the second car in the family and it's not used as a daily driver. That's why the mileage should be around 10-12 thousand miles a year.
  2. Condition. If you service your vehicle according to the requirements, you will get more money in the end. Actually, the estimated price depreciation given above was based on a potential price of a well-serviced vehicle. A neglected car will sell at a much cheaper price.
  3. Accidents. The accident record of the vehicle is a very important factor for its price. If your car has accidents in its record, the vehicle will sell 10-30% cheaper than we have stated above.
  4. Rust. Any signs of rust on the car body will make it cheaper. Much cheaper. And getting some rust on a Gladiator is not a hard thing to do. If you love off-roading, the rust will be a natural side effect of body damage.
  5. Service records. Every car should have a clear history of service. If you don't go to official service stations, you should save the documents from other service stations to show them when you sell your car.

The price will also depend on many other factors like the visual problems, the way your interior looks, the tire condition, the additional options you have installed recently, etc. But these price changes will not be very dramatic. Unfortunately, there is a clear price depreciation parameter that the market uses for a Gladiator.

Though, your vehicle may cost a little more if you service it according to the requirements if it has very low mileage if it looks just like new, and so on.

Where should you sell your Gladiator?

Selling a vehicle in America is both hard and easy. How can it be? You can easily sell your vehicle to a used cars dealer. But the price will be at least 20% less than the market price (given above). You can also offer your vehicle for one of the auctions and sell it just in one day. But the price will be very low.

To sell a vehicle at a market price, you may use more complicated options:

  • private sales to any person in your area - just advertise your vehicle for sale;
  • private sales on a car market if you have one in your area;
  • private sales in online auctions like eBay or some other websites;
  • commission sales through a dealer - you will get the money when the vehicle is sold.

So, if you think that selling your vehicle in the US at a market price is easy, you should try. We are pretty sure that in one or two months you will be ready to sell the car at a much lower price.

Final words

Jeep Gladiator is not a simple car to sell on the market of used vehicles. You will need to prove that your car is in very good condition. Or you will just need to sell the vehicle to a dealer and forget about the market prices. Today, we've tried to show you the pure price depreciation for a Jeep Gladiator. But bear in mind that the price will most likely drop even more than that because selling your vehicle at a market price is a hard task.
