KTM Duke 390 Problems: What's Bad in Your Wonderful Bike?

Your KTM Duke 390 is a great bike with some style in it. But it's certainly not the most reliable piece of technology on the road.

The common problems of this model include random stalling, uncomfortable seats, vibrations, clunking noises from the transmission, pretty weak wheel rims, and too stiff suspension. In this short article, I'll look into each of the problems in more detail.

KtM Duke 390 problems

1) Random stalling and not starting

This most likely happens due to fuel injector problems. Also, the battery has been reported to go bad pretty fast and cause this issue. Your Duke 390 may just not crank after it stalls.

2) Bad seat

I would say it's a pretty personal thing and all owners will decide for themselves. But a lot of reports are found in forums saying that the seat is too high and not really supportive.

3) Vibrations and clunking noises

The engine in the KTM Duke 390 vibrates badly, especially when cold. This makes it uncomfortable to drive the bike in slow traffic. Also, the transmission clutch is hard to engage correctly, so the transmission may clunk sometimes. This won't destroy anything but it's pretty annoying.

4) Weak rims

This problem has also been reported many times. The Duke 390 is equipped with really poor wheels that can bend a little when you are driving on harsh terrain. This will lead to tire pressure loss and the inability to drive the bike safely.

5) Suspension is pretty stiff

In addition to the seat that is not really comfortable, the suspension makes it even harder to ride your bike and get some pleasure. It's OK for those who love feeling the road, but the Duke 390 is not made for comfortable riding.

But overall, is it a good bike?

I would say that the KTM Duke 390 is a pretty good purchase for the money it costs. This is an overall reliable motorcycle and with good maintenance and proper repair, it will last long. Also, all its common problems are not that hard to fix. With some upgrades and an understanding of possible weak sides, the bike may give you a lot of pleasure when you ride it.
