Connecting MyChevrolet to the phone correctly

Before we look at the common problems and their fixes, I want to show you exactly how you should connect the smartphone to MyChevrolet system. Very often, you may be doing this wrong and this causes problems with the connection.

Here's the proper procedure:

  • Turn on the vehicle. You may turn on the ignition or the engine. Without this, the pairing will not be possible.
  • On the infotainment screen, locate the phone icon and touch it.
  • Choose "Add Phone". The button may also say "Pair Device" or "+". Choose the option to add a new phone.
  • On your phone, turn on the Bluetooth.
  • After that, go to Bluetooth settings in the phone and see the list of available devices.
  • You will see the Chevrolet vehicle on the list. Tap on it to build the connection.
  • Once the connection starts, the infotainment system will give you a code that you should enter in the phone to complete pairing.
  • Now check that your phone is available on the list of paired devices in MyChevrolet.

This is how it works. Pretty easy, and just like in any other vehicle. If you did everything right, there shouldn't be any problems with your phone connection. But I heard a lot of times that people had issues when trying to connect MyChevrolet to their smartphones. So, I decided to check why this happens and what you can do.

Problems with the Bluetooth connection in Chevy and ways to fix them

So, it's not uncommon to have some issues with the Bluetooth pairing process. Sometimes, the problem is in the smartphone but sometimes it's in the infotainment system and the latter one is much harder to solve.

Let's see what can happen and what you can do about that.

1. Smartphone settings

If you can't pair your phone to your Chevy vehicle, one of the most common culprits is the smartphone. Its settings may have some glitches. You just need to turn it off and then on again. After that, follow the pairing procedure again and you should succeed now.

2. Full list of paired devices

Maybe, your vehicle has a lot of paired devices and you just can't add another one. Delete the devices that you don't use anymore and try connecting your phone again.

3. Bluetooth connection not working in the phone

This happens rarely, but is still worth checking. If you can't pair the phone to your car whatever you do, get the smartphone to the service center and ask specialists to check the Bluetooth connection.

Alternatively, you can try pairing your smartphone with a different phone and see if this process goes smoothly.

4. Infotainment glitch

Quite often, the infotainment system in your Chevy may have issues with connection and pairing if it has developed a software glitch. In this case, you can try a soft reset or hard reset. For a soft reset, consult the driver's manual. A hard reset will be completed by disconnecting the car battery for several minutes.

5. Bluetooth module in your vehicle

If nothing works, the most possible culprit is the Bluetooth antenna in your Chevy. Go to the dealership and ask the mechanic to check if the antenna is working properly.

Final thoughts

If your phone won't connect to the Chevy, you may try another phone to understand if the problem is in your smartphone or in the vehicle. Also, proper inspection will help you find out what's wrong in this situation. If you follow the procedure described above, you shouldn't have any problems with connecting your phone to the Chevrolet vehicle and using all the advantages of this connection.
