Porsche 911 Waiting Time - How Long to Expect Now?

If you are looking for the opportunity to buy a new Porsche vehicle, you might be interested in something that is readily available in the dealers' shops. But those are usually SUVs like the Cayenne or the Macan. What if you would want to buy a 911 with a special build and some unusual trim? How long will you have to wait for such a car to be built and delivered to your area?

Today, we'll tell you everything you need to know about the delivery time for the Porsche 911. It's not that hard to guess that you'll have to wait for quite a long. But how exactly long? We'll see what dealers tell you and what actual owners of the Porsche 911 tell us when we ask about waiting time. You'll be surprised that those answers are completely different.

Let's get started!

Can you buy a readily available Porsche 911?

Well, hypothetically, this is possible. But we have never seen a person who managed to do that. If you are OK with the Carrera model that is the most affordable in the lineup, you have a decent chance to get one directly from a dealer's shop. But in most cases, all those 911 models that are presented in showrooms are already booked and are just waiting for their future owner to come and fetch them.

We've never seen an available 911 that you could just buy. The Carrera version is just a little above $100,000 but you are likely to want something more unusual and unique like the Targa 4S for $150,000 or the Dakar for $220,000, or maybe even the Sport Classic for a whopping $270,000.

Once you choose a different trim than the Carrera base model, you have no chance of finding that car available in showrooms. Your vehicle will be built for you by a company in Europe and then delivered to your area. This is going to take some time because, believe it or not, guys in Porsche factories don't just sit calm and expect your order. They have some job to do.

How long will you wait for your Porsche 911?

It's hard to estimate the delivery time for any vehicle, especially for a Porsche car that is built in one relatively small plant in Europe. Once these guys have a lot of orders, they struggle to provide good delivery time.

The average waiting time to get your hands on the Porsche 911 you've ordered is about 9 to 11 months. Not a little time, we should say. And you will also have to pay a solid deposit so that the company is sure that you are going to eventually buy this car when it arrives.

So, you pay quite a lot of money and then have to sit and wait for your supercar for almost a year. Not a good opportunity. But people don't care much - they have no other chance to get the new Porsche 911.

Why is it so long?

Porsche just can't deliver hundreds of 911 models to every big city in the world. This car is built in limited quantities and delivered to those people who have already paid money for the car. This is not a mass-produced product but rather a unique and rare vehicle to underline your status and lifestyle.

So, they will start making your Porsche once you pay a deposit. This way, the company knows that they will sell all the 911 cars they make. And they also can make the vehicle more expensive and earn more money because it's an exclusive car even though it's a standard model in the lineup. The genius decision, we should say.

How can you get your Porsche 911 faster?

There are basically two main ways how you can get your hands on the desired Porsche 911 faster than 9 to 11 months after you pay a deposit.

Here are both:

  • You can go to the dealership and ask them if they have a Porsche 911 that wasn't collected by the person who ordered the car. They may find some available models across America and deliver them to you within one or two weeks. Usually, the price is not that good and you will have to buy the trim that another person ordered.
  • Also, you can buy a used Porsche 911. But you should remember that this is one of those cars that tend to cost even more when they get older. So, if a person bought a 911 for $120,000, they are going to sell it for $140,000 in three years. Just because you have no choice if you want to drive the Porsche 911 right now.

What about salvage cars?

One more option for you is the salvage vehicle from an auction. You may see that a 2020 Porsche 911 will cost $30,000 to $50,000 and will have low mileage. Just some repairs will be needed. But don't let these auctions fool you - to repair the 911 after accidents or flood will cost you a fortune, so keep your head cold and just count up everything thoroughly.
