The pursuit of speed doesn't stop since far 2005 when the Bugatti Corporation, already owned by Volkswagen concern for that time, set up a new world record of speed among serial cars. We will try to understand, what serial supercar is the fastest in the world today.
It is necessary to tell at once that we don't take into account cars of the American garage companies, based on official data of the Guinness Book of Records and other open sources. Only serial cars which can really be got in the world market are interesting to us.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport - the leader of the last decade
The car which kept an official record of speed in the world more than five years is laid off today. The company works over the following development which will allow to return the lost title. Nevertheless, the supercar is worthy our attention, after all it took an honourable position among serial cars many years, and any development of other manufacturers couldn't outrun the set-up record.
There were certain difficulties on tests which led Bugatti in the list of champions on speed. Speed which was put by the car in the second (control) arrival appeared to equal 434 kilometers per hour. If this parameter took for truth, Veyron till now would hold the first place on speed. But controlers of the Book of records found certain errors:
- a speed limit was off on the test car, which made 415 kilometers per hour on a serial car;
- similar manipulations with the car are inadmissible by rules of the Book of records, after all the car has to be identical to serial one;
- record didn't remove, but speed reduced to 415 kilometers limited on serial cars;
- it allowed the present official champion, which will be discussed below, to break Bugatti Veyron record.
Among remarkable features of hypercar, developed by the German engineers, it is possible to allocate the 16.4-liter engine and 1040 horsepower. To speed in 300 kilometers per hour the car accelerates less than a minute. Such characteristics till now keep the automobile world in a certain delight from model.
It is impossible to get new Veyron today. The company stopped its release as soon as the speed record was broken. Today collectors worldwide are ready to pay to 2 million euros for not so frequent Bugatti Veyron cars. In the years of serial release the car cost 1.4-1.6 million euro.
American Hennessey Venom GT - the current record holder
Today's official record of speed among serial cars belongs to the American Hennessey Venom GT. This supercar is developed even at not full automobile plant. His founder is the tuning company which is engaged in improvement of technical and visual characteristics of cars of different producers.
The car is developed in close cooperation with other American producers, but the founder, whose name bears the car, also enclosed many works in configuration of received development. The coupe of Lotus Exige became a basis for a wheelbase, a suspender and a supercar body, and the engine borrowed at General Motors. This power unit was used on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Main achievements of the car are the following:
- dispersal record to speed in 300 kilometers per hour belongs to Hennessey - it makes 13.63 seconds;
- maximum speed of the car confirmed with experts of the Book of records, made 427.6 kilometers per hour;
- since February 9, 2013 the car is the sole leader of a rating of the fastest serial cars in the world.
Production of Hennessey Venom GT continues in a small series today. More precisely, the buyer can order and prepay the car to receive it from plant. The corporation is ready to introduce functions in the car necessary for you, you can choose color and other characteristics. The cost which isn't disclosed on the general review depends on it also.
In the secondary market demand for Hennessey Venom GT isn't so big yet. As soon as the concern will stop release of cars, collectors all over the world are activated and will offer a lot of money for the car which settles down on the top of a status of the rating of the fastest cars.
Let's sum up the results
The American and German derby proceeds in a rank for the fastest serial car. The Bugatti plant experienced considerable financial difficulties after removal of Veyron from leaders of the list of the Guinness Book of Records. Today development of ordinary serial supercars and model which will help Germans to return a rank of the fastest car is already conducted.
