How To Start Engine If Starter Is Dead?

Engine start with a dead starter is impossible if you have automatic transmission. If your car has manual transmission, you can push it and start without using a starter. We discussed the major starter problems in one of our previous articles: https://cararac.com/blog/all-drivers-should-know-these-7-symptoms-of-bad-starter.html

Bump starting is possible with manual gearboxes: just press the clutch pedal, switch on ignition, have someone push your car at 5 to 7 mph, release clutch pedal - the engine will start. All automatic transmissions work in different way - they have no original clutch. Even if they have it like automized manual transmissions, for example, you don't have a pedal for this clutch, so you can't control the way it works.

So to push start a vehicle with an automatic transmission of any kind is impossible. To start the engine in this case you will need to repair the starter motor. Before repairing or changing the starter, make sure that the battery isn't flat. It may sound amusing, but there are hundreds of people who spend thousands to repair their cars to just find that the battery was dead and that had been the core of all problems.
