Transmission Oil Leaks – What Can Cause Them?

 

If the oil leaks from the vehicle’s transmission, there could be troubles with oil seals or gaskets. It all depends on the gearbox construction. Sometimes the trouble may occur when the gearbox oil pan is damaged. We say about that in our big article about oil leaks and ways to cope with them.

Transmission oil not very thick, so it comes our quickly if there is a problem with oil seal, for example. If you notice drops of oil in your garage or on the driveway, it’s time to visit the service station. Changing the oil seal in the gearbox isn’t that hard for a skilled worker of the station, but it’s close to impossible to complete without any experience.

Oil seals in the transmission may be out of order because of excessive oil pressure. For example, if you changed the oil in the gearbox, you could pour too much of it and create excessive pressure.

One more reason – the car’s age. In a 15-year-old vehicle any oil seal may start leaking, it’s a normal thing. So if you experience problems, just check the transmission and repair it if needed.
